About The Firm
James M. Kent, CPA was founded in 1994 in Dallas, Texas by Jim Kent. Jim graduated summa cum laude in 1993 from the University of Texas at Dallas. After passing all parts of the Certified Public Accountant exam on the first attempt, Jim earned his CPA certification in May 1994. He immediately started his own accounting firm. While building his own firm's client base, he obtained practical accounting experience working as an employee for several public accounting firms and corporations in various industries.
While working as an employee, Jim learned that clients want their accountant to offer services customized to their particular individual situation and business at reasonable prices. This was in stark contrast to the way most CPA firms do business. Most professional accounting firms focus only on generating the highest number of "billable hours" and other fees. Jim decided that his firm would not do business this way.
During 2005, Jim moved the firm from the Dallas area to Soddy-Daisy, a small town located in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. As a testament to the high level of the service he provides, over 99% of his clients from Texas, and other states, remained with the firm after the move.
Our current focus is to leverage technology to provide services to clients located all over the Unites States. Because of the lower operating expenses at our current location, we are able to offer the highest level of service at a fraction of the cost of metropolitan area accounting firms.
